Street Sweeper Biodiesel Test Run

Street Sweeper Biodiesel Test Run

The City of Whittlesea has begun testing the use of greener fuel in its fleet of more than 60 heavy vehicles to cut carbon emissions.

Council, with the help of Monash University, will run a street sweeper for one to two months on B20 Biodiesel fuel provided through specialist fuel supplier Biomax.

“We are doing this test to rate the fuel’s efficiency, emission reduction and the cost implications,” says Council’s Team Leader Environmental Operations, Ben Harries.

(The success of the biodiesel fuel industry relies heavily on biodiesel testing <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s32Ke2VzrqU>, not only at the production level but at the consumer level, where degraded fuel may cause engine failures.  Of major concern to diesel and biodiesel users is the very real possibility that water has contaminated their fuel.
