Canadian Biofuels Producers Unsure of Overall Carbon Footprint

A recent Canadian government study found that ethanol and biodiesel producers in the country calculate their carbon footprints using different methods, the Toronto Star reports, which is making it difficult to calculate the size of the overall footprint.

The report conducted earlier this year said, "As a result of these differences, and in the absence of a full set of supporting data and analyses, there are varying perceptions regarding the overall environmental performance as well as total footprint of biofuels," the Star said.

(The success of the biodiesel fuel industry relies heavily on biodiesel testing <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s32Ke2VzrqU>, not only at the production level but at the consumer level, where degraded fuel may cause engine failures.  Of major concern to diesel and biodiesel users is the very real possibility that water has contaminated their fuel.
