In December, Sen. Richard Lugar expressed his support for the Biodiesel Tax Credit in a letter to the Senate Committee on Finance. The credit was due to expire at the end of the year, and Lugar said he was concerned about the “precarious situation delay and inaction” from Congress in extending the credit would create for biofuels producers.
Now, seven months after Congress failed to extend the credit, “precarious” doesn’t quite describe the fallout for Hoosier producers.
John Wittington, vice president of Integrity Biofuels in Morristown, said the loss of the tax credit is the sole reason for his company’s employee cutbacks.
